beyerdynamic first reached out to me through mutual contacts in the studio I was recording at -
people I had been working with for years. At the time, they had just launched a new social media series focused on highlighting the journeys of different recording artists, studio engineers, and other music industry professionals. Their goal being to provide valuable insight for aspiring musicians. After my experience on The Voice, I was excited to share my own advice from what I’ve learned so far.
As we got to know each other, we talked about something that so many independent artists, like me, struggle with: finding support for projects without the traditional record label structure. That’s where beyerdynamic, my producer/drummer John Richardson, and I came up with an alternative path. As a company that creates music products, they’re always looking for new music to license for content. So instead of going through the conventional channels, they provided the funds upfront to me to create and record my next EP - in exchange for licensing the finished music. The best part being I get to keep full ownership of my songs.
Now, I’m getting ready to release three new songs this year, all without taking on debt or giving away the rights to my music. This makes me hopeful for the future of the music industry, that models like this one can be used more often and be a benefit to everyone.
